This month many years ago

"This is hallowed ground. Across these fields in the early light of the third of January 1777, Washington's Continentals defeated British regulars for the first time in the long struggle for American independence." Portico and sign by the tomb of unknown American and British soldiers, Princeton Battlefield. Unplowed snow blocked my path to the battlefield, but I found these January 2013 snaps. (More battlefield here and here.)

I'm taking a break next week. Enjoy your weekend, see you soon!

P.S. Below, Friday AM forecast is -20C/-8F (thanks to Jack for the Fahrenheit reminder) - far colder than Alaska's 2-3C. No wonder my camera's protesting.

Snow day

Having fun, even before the storm ended! I wanted a better shot, but my camera kept freezing up.

Stormy weather

Start of yesterday's winter storm. My camera refused to work after 10 minutes - too cold! (And today's morning forecast is -15C, lovely.)

Weekend explorations: Outdoor fun

In Manhattan's Bryant Park, snapped right before I left for Xmas/New Year's break. This got lost in the post-travel shuffle. Hard to tell from my point-and-shoot, but it was a beautiful winter's night.

Golden

The setting sunlight so intense, I lowered the saturation in this shot (don't think I've ever done that) - it otherwise looked too fake! Have a golden weekend.

Is that a big cat?

Princeton University's mascot is the tiger, after all. (Kona was so excited about snow - and cats! - she got into every frame. I was too cold to retake the shot.)

Dashing through the snow

With a snowdrift loving dog! Bitter cold (-15C/3F) + snowgloves (lost my 'photowalk' gloves with the flap over fingers) = awkward photos. Few were out and snow made everything beautifully quiet.

Where's Pooh?

Spotted Pooh on my way to watch Philomena at our little movie house (a sad, funny, beautifully-told tale).

Sunny, snowy afternoon

Princeton University's Cannon Green. Near the middle left of photo is a buried Revolutionary War cannon, left by the Brits (last shown here). Happy Monday!

Postcards from England: Friday fun

Loved this Moor Hall Primary School sign: "Don't choke us. Fumes are monsters!! Turn off your engine when you are parked." Below, more fun sights to round out the English break. Enjoy your weekend!

Postcard from England: Some sunlight

Despite English storms (hail and all), we got some sunlight in Sutton Coldfield. The area was once Henry VIII's hunting grounds and he favored the town with a royal charter. In 2nd photo, Jeeves loved the sun too!

Postcard from England: A low-key break

Moor Hall grounds, Sutton Coldfield. We enjoyed a low-key Christmas/New Year's break across the pond. Hope your holidays were relaxing and your year's off to a great start - here's to 2014!
