Washington Road Bridge

Over Lake Carnegie, from the Princeton boathouse. The bridge offers great views during rowing races (the gold-medal winning U.S. Olympic rowing team is headquartered in Princeton). The bridge is also in the opening credits of House M.D. (below, at 0:20), set in Princeton.

THE Hugh Laurie? As in British? Crikey, it seems it is... Sorry, I don't have TV so I'm sort of living in a backward age and remember him from the Blackadder...

Now to the bridge: it's nice and simple and classical, and the water is very high!

I dont watch much TV and never did House but it is a fine lake and obviously of use to the rowers. Oddly Leeds never had a Carnegie library, but we did get some money towards a college for training PE teachers.

Always interesting to learn of the "other life" of everyday landmarks. I have never seen this programme but heard HL has a flawless US accent in it...?

Beautiful shot of the bridge Lulu, love the perspective with the greenery in front..and Ciel, keep remembering him in Blackadder, he was so much better in that!

cieldequimper - thanks! And I admit, I also have no TV and have never watched House (even though it's set here). I have good memories of Hugh Laurie from Blackadder and Jeeves & Wooster, so I suppose I'm also behind the times! :)

Paul - it's amazing how far-reaching Carnegie's influence went. I guess it'll be hard to see that era of wealth and philanthropy again. He certainly did a lot in both the US and UK.

Jenny - I couldn't agree more, it's fun seeing that 'other life' of landmarks :) I admit I've never watched House! But from YouTube clips, his American accent is indeed flawless and apparently he's very good on the show.

Adele - thanks so much!

PerthDailyPhoto - thanks so much! And lol re: Blackadder, I've never seen House so also have nice memories of Hugh Laurie in Blackadder and J&W. :)

You have produced a lovely postcard image here. Remember that! (As for TV - I have too many TV's in our house and there is hardly anything to watch on them - my opinion. But, we do like to watch sport and TV ticks the box for that. I admire anyone who doesn't bother with TV because they most likely 'read' and maybe listen to the radio. Something I wish I did more of. Gold star for you.)

Very pretty bridge! At first glance I thought it was the Arlington Memorial or Roosevelt Bridge near Georgetown in Washington, DC (then Googled it and found I was completely wrong!) ... love that it appears in the House opener ;)

LOLfromPasa - aw, thank you! I think we gave up on TV for the same reason, nothing to watch :) (On the other hand, we do watch DVDs when we can - so I'm afraid I'm not getting as much reading done as I could! ;-))

Catherine - thank you! Before I realized what this bridge was, and had only seen local photos, I would also think of the bridges around DC and the Potomac too, so it's not just you (or me :)

Pretty bridge with gentle arches. I'd love to stand on it watching the rowing.
