Postcard from England: Baddesley Clinton estate, Warwickshire

Moving back in time, I alighted here briefly before Paris. During Elizabeth I's reign, this 1400s moated manor harbored Catholic priests (see priest hole in 2nd photo), when it was treason to do so. Enjoy your weekend!

P.S. Fans of the Sherlock Holmes TV series starring Jeremy Brett (a Warwickshire lad) may recognize Baddesley Clinton as the locale for a gothic, entertaining episode, "The Musgrave Ritual." :)

I could be quite happy there.

Oh, sure, it would be roughing it, but we all have to make sacrifices, right?

You have just brought back a ton of childhood memories of playing inside pre-Elizabethan and Elizabethan castles, manors, gardens! And it's a brilliant reflection too!

Always fascinated by these tidbits of history... though there's way too much strife in it all. Love the stark reflection of the manor. Enjoy your weekend Lulu!

What a beautiful place. Plus I'm a big Jeremy Brett fan, so I enjoyed this post, enjoyed seeing him in the setting. Amazing that this same actor was Freddie in the Rex Harrison/Audrey Hepburn version of "My Fair Lady."

I've just watched the entire episode, and I see the very door in your photo!
