The meandering canal

The 1830s Delaware-Raritan Canal (shown previously) and towpath meanders lazily through Princeton and beyond. Here, it passes through lovely, neighboring Lambertville (20-30 minutes drive away).

Princeton Hospital at Plainsboro

Princeton Hospital moved last year to neighboring Plainsboro. It is now a 15 minute drive, not walk, away. To many, life had (inconveniently) imitated art: TV hit House was set at fictional Princeton-Plainsboro Hospital.

(Confession: I like Hugh Laurie but never watched House. Have you?)

CDP Theme Day: Creative Artisan | P for Peruvian

Rich textiles and a handcrafted llama grace my favorite Peruvian restaurant, El Tule, in neighboring Lambertville, just a 20-30 minute drive away. (My first post-work-travel stop, ceviche does wonders:)

Statuary

North of Princeton, a hay barn-turned-statuary at Duke Farms, the estate of late philanthropist Doris Duke (Duke University is named for the family). The estate's 2700+ acres, 20% of Manhattan's acreage, are now a public park with trails and native species. Controversially, many original gardens were demolished. My doctor's office is across this park, so it's a nice detour.
***
Bittersweet note: The park's nesting bald eagles are expecting hatchlings any day, but the eagle camera caught a fight with a hawk attacking the nest Sunday. It remains to be seen if the eggs are OK. Update: As of late Monday, one eaglet has hatched and is being fed, awaiting one more egg.

Antiques browsing

The latest in old technology! A peek inside The Tomato Factory, an antique haven in tiny Hopewell, just a 20 minute drive away in the Greater Princeton area.

Trainspotting

Pausing for a 1920s train, on my way to a friend's art festival. I'd just crossed state borders from Lambertville, west of Princeton, to New Hope, Pennsylvania. This area is a local favorite, just a 20-30 minute drive away.
