Back by the Capitol, a sudden Hitchcock moment! I shot blindly (camera screen glare), hoping for the best.

Postcard from Washington, DC: Capital view
{View of Washington Monument and U.S. Capitol, from the Lincoln Memorial} |
I was in Washington, DC for work not long ago and had a free hour (yay!), so relished the freedom to roam. I thought I'd share some DC shots in coming days.

$100,000 Reward!
Just a nod to last night's Oscar (Academy Award) nominees. A current rare documents exhibit at Firestone Library includes this 1865 "Wanted" poster for John Wilkes Booth and conspirators in the assassination of Abraham Lincoln: "The Murderer of our late beloved President, Abraham Lincoln, is still at large."

Good night
The day ends at the Institute Pond. That red flag means no ice skating. Just visible in the dying light are Canadian geese round the pond, not pleased by my presence.:) Enjoy your weekend! More at Ein Stück Himmel.

Bright afternoon
So sunny but so cold, near the Institute Woods and a metal sculpture (New Piece, by Tony Smith, 1966).

F for Furry Friend
It's a tough job, snapping photos one-handed, groggy before caffeine, while a furry friend distracts you on your morning commute...but someone's got to do it! More at ABC Wednesday.

A famous scholar
"Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited whereas imagination embraces the entire world."
-Albert Einstein, inscription on bust at Princeton Borough Hall
Einstein moved to Princeton in 1933 and resided on Mercer Street until his death in 1955. The first thing he apparently did in Princeton? Buy an ice cream cone. (I'd shown his house here.)

Waiting for spring
This tree is much more patient than I, and more good looking too. (Alas, I do not know what kind it is.) Happy Monday!

Cheesy love
Happy Valentine's at the cheesemongers! Legend has it that French milkmaids during the Hundred Years War made heart-shaped Coeur de Bray ("farmstead cheese with a bloomy rind and mushroom aroma") to express their love to English soldiers stationed in Normandy. Apologies for the dark indoor photo!

After the storm
Monday, February 11, 2013
During the storm
Eventually, we got only 7 inches (~18cm) of snow, but our northeast neighbors were harder hit. Below, to give more "flavor" of the storm, phone shots of Boston via my sister, who walked to work in the storm, amid a no-transportation ban and 25 inches of snow. My hat's off to her, a doctor on a hospital shift, and all who brave storms to keep us safe!

Peaceful, snow-hushed mornings
Though we're expecting a 'Hide your wife, hide your children' storm! Have a safe weekend. See more skies at Ein Stück Himmel.

Put on your game face
One more peek at the Oyster Bowl slurp fest for breast cancer (posted yesterday), those intense game faces! The champion was the guy in white baseball cap in second photo, 93 oysters in 2 minutes.

Oyster feast
Bon appétit! Instead of Sunday's big Super Bowl football game, I watched the Oyster Bowl, Princeton's annual oyster eating contest to benefit breast cancer. There was much cheering and much, much more slurping.

Summer, come back
Cheery parasols at Hinds Plaza (named in honor of a longtime resident, grandson of a former slave). See all entries for City Daily Photo's Umbrella theme day.
