Sunbathing

Princeton Battlefield. Serenity belying its past. The fenced new Mercer Oak, grown from the original, marks where Revolutionary hero, General Mercer, lay before dying.
***
(Lasting legacy: Mercer's descendants include WWII general George Patton and lyricist Johnny Mercer, who penned words for such popular songs as "Moon River," immortalized by Audrey Hepburn).

It's fabulous when a sapling survives from an old tree, i had a similar situation in my back garden, huge tree was pulled out by the roots in a storm and I thought that was the end of it, but no, up grew a sapling and now i have a lovely tree once more..ah nature is a wonderous thing! How nice that these sunbathers have this field all to themselves.

I feel they should have a big picnic basket

What I love about this picture is that there is 'no rain'! Looks so inviting and nice and warm.

cieldequimper - yes, how quickly things can change :) And I'm treasuring our half-days of blue sky, since it thunderstorms the other half!

PerthDailyPhoto - how fantastic your tree lives on through a thriving sapling! I love that. Nature is a indeed a wondrous, wondrous thing :)

Mo - I do too, I need a shot of picnickers on the battlefield!

LOLfromPasa - the weather has been so strange lately that blue sky moments are around only half the time (then it storms the other half)! :)

Dianne - thank you! Despite losing the old tree, it's lovely to see this young tree doing well.

It's hard to believe there once was a battle on this tranquil spot.
