oh he's adorable! great shot of him! i can never get a good picture of these guys...usually i pass them on the side of the road or by the time i see them out in the open they disappear into their little hole! i just love them!
Oh my he really is prepared for the long haul! Why is it that little critters like this look so cute when they're chubby like this and yet when we do, well you know the rest haha!!
cieldequimper - I'd love to hibernate all winter, haha! (That's nice to know re: the hospital, they're making use of the existing structure).
a.s.m. - thanks! I would love to prepare for winter like this animal, eating & sleeping:)
Paul - that's too funny, we may have too many groundhogs, the weather's run amock lately!
Catherine - something about their chubbiness is endearing:) The first time I ever saw one was near DC, actually! Surprising (but cute) sight.
Tanya - I love seeing them waddling about too! Though they move surprisingly quick, given their shape and size:)
LOLfromPasa - haha, yes definitely more - I think I was about 30 feet away and I had to zoom in. They are skittish creatures:) (My zoomed photos often look ghastly, but I figured this chubby guy was worth the loss of resolution:)
Perth - that's hilarious, the million dollar question! I guess human babies can get away with being chubby and cute, but not so much adults...not fair!:)
Sometimes you can get quite close to them, and other times they scatter to the wind as you pass by. We have a fair number on campus, but you see less of them now, with much more of a student population on campus than in the summer.

Lol, sweet! Sometimes I wish I could hibernate! :-)
Re. Hôpital Richaud: it was a ruin and hasn't been a hospital for a long, long time. I suppose the buildings were inadequate.
Una dulce escena que nos prepara para el invierno.
Un saludo, Angel
Here in Yorkshire there is a distinct lack of groundhogs, perhaps that's why our weather is so unpredictable.
Another furry little creature in your neck of the woods Lulu, love it! S/he looks so busy and focused, very cute capture.

How close were you? I expect you were further than 8ft :). Wonderful shot of a critter I have never seen in person.
