Tracing history: Former US capital

{FitzRandolph Gate and Nassau Hall, Princeton University}
Nassau Hall, built 1754, is a quiet academic building today, but was once a Revolutionary War battle site. Behind the right of the gate...

A reminder that Nassau Hall was also the capitol building in 1783, when Princeton was capital of a new nation. (I guess things were less sleepy then!)

P.S. Campus lore: Students walking through FitzRandolph gate won't graduate, eek.

Capital it may have been but I guess Princeton is far better known around the world today as a place of learning.

The Campus lore is spooky Lulu! What to do when students need to pass through, they must have invented very creative detours?

Beautiful shot. I've always liked using gates and arches to frame a photo.

a.s.m. - thanks! Many buildings with historical or cultural significance do not survive in this country - I'm also glad this building was preserved...a great reminder of history, indeed.

Paul - yes, so much nicer to be thought of as a center of learning than as a center of politics!

Tanya - I also didn't know until I moved here! Fun to think that history is all around us.

EG - I love learning from other bloggers myself! Glad to be of educational service:)

PerthDailyPhoto - oh yes, I soo prefer sleepy!:)

William - thank you! And thanks so much for dropping by!

LOLfromPasa - thanks! I love history, though I know very little - you're lucky you've so much of it in your neck of the woods:)

Randy - thanks! I also never knew until I moved here.

Mildred - thanks! It was capital for such a short time, so I was also surprised to learn it.
