Bonfire time

{Pre-bonfire}

{Post-bonfire, next day}
Princeton lit a bonfire Saturday to mark football wins over Harvard and Yale. I couldn't stay, but from the charred 1700s cannon buried here (left by the British, its top is visible in 2nd photo), it was a big blaze!

Haven't been to a bonfire since I lived in London as a child! I used to love bonfire night (Guy Fawke's day)!

GO THOSE TIGERS! Wow a bonfire, long since relegated to the dangerous list Downunder.

Una imagen muy nítida, en cuanto a la hoguera son anécdotas curiosas.

Bonfires hold a strange attraction, perhaps subliminal to ward off the wild things in the dark. If you don't want it can we have our canon back?

Gosh brings a whole new meaning to burnt to the ground! How come they built the bonfire over the top of the old cannon in the first place?

that must have been some blaze! it reminds me of that guy fawkes day bonfire!

Oh man, they didn't try to burn a historic cannon did they? Or is it just me getting it all wrong again? :)

I did smile when I saw the thumbnail, thinking it looked like a bonfire. And it WAS! Must be so much fun living in a University town and being somewhat involved too, I expect. Have super Thanksgiving, Lulu. I will celebrate with my golfing buddies (if it isn't raining too hard). Cheers!

Duncan - I overheard students talking the next day, apparently it was a huge and extremely hot bonfire!:)

cieldequimper - so cool you got to spend youthful years in London! I wish we had bonfires more often (George Washington apparently banned Guy Fawkes bonfires amongst his soldiers, it never really caught on again.:)

Peter - haha, I think the bonfire's on the Dangerous List here too, but the Princetonians ignored it!

a.s.m. - thanks! I used one of the barrier gates as a makeshift "tripod" this time:)

Paul - lol, you might have to fight off some Princeton students, they are attached to the cannon (even if they enjoy burning bonfires right over it). I find bonfires fascinating too - I like your explanation.

PerthDailyPhoto - it's the strangest thing isn't it, haha - I bet it has to do with the cannon being British. Old rivalries and all :)

Tanya - it seemed like an enormous blaze! I mentioned above for cieldequimper, it's really thanks to good old George Washington that we don't really have Guy Fawkes bonfires anymore (he banned it!)

Jenny - it's bizarre isn't it? But it seems to be a tradition to build the bonfire right over a 1700s cannon. That poor cannon!

LOLfromPasa - I bet it's nothing compared to the Guy Fawkes fun you experience each autumn! It *is* kind of fun being in a college town, students have so much energy! Have a safe and happy Thanksgiving - golfing sounds perfect!

Wow! this must have been "some" Bon-fire
Well done to Princeton for winning the football especially against such big name opponents.

Bet that would be fun to see.

I agree with LOL about living in a college town - especially one with such history. Always something to see!

That would a blast to see!

Bring the marshmallows... and a long stick for roasting!
